Race and Politics: Part IV

By his reasoning, barbaric Gaels, Britons, and Germans would not have achieved a higher level of “civilization” without the ancient Roman conquest. It is as if these people were too stupid or uncivilized to accept or learn Greek and Roman “civilization” without first being conquered or enslaved. Thomas Sowell has bought into the attitude of conquerors, colonizers, and enslavers? It is also called the Stockholm syndrome. JJ

Thomas Sowell states, “…the fact that people of African ancestry in the United States have a far higher standard of living than the people of African ancestry still living in sub-Saharan Africa, is due to injustices and abuses inflicted on black Americans' ancestors.” He sounds like an apologist for white supremacy. Mark Hendricks tells us that some people are poor because of their own vices, others because of lack of freedom and opportunity. Whatever the cause, we need no government intervention for “social justice” because (Matthew 26:11) “ye shall have the poor always with you.” Mark does not tell us that the greatest “social injustice” and greatest redistribution of wealth occurred during the Reagan years. The redistribution was from the working class and poor to the upper classes. So government has some value in the redistribution of wealth. The biggest obstacle in stopping this redistribution of wealth is “democracy” or the right to vote. Of course the Right Wing solution is to disenfranchise as many of the working class and poor as...

Dem Strategists Have It Wrong

Morris has it backwards. Every legislative victory for President Obama is another constituency that goes into the Democratic voting bloc. Passing Obamacare added 32 million voters into the Democratic column. The same could be said for student loan reform. The Congressional Republicans are in a quandary. President Obama has asked for their advice and input but every vote for President Obama gets them labeled as RINO’s by their extremist base. All they can do to maintain and sustain the rightwing base is be the Party of NO and obstruction. If Morris expects middle class disaffection with President Obama will save the Party, he is still in fantasy land. In the last 20 years, it has been the American middle classes that have been most...

Tainting the Tea Party

Jason Jr. Wrote: Mar 26, 2010 4:04 PM
Protest in a Democracy should promote the values of equality, freedom, and social justice. It is obvious that many tea baggers are out right racists and homophobes. Their “conservative idealism” obviously does not included radical or even moderate egalitarianism. Their extreme patriotism mirrors that of Joseph McCarthy. If they are being smeared, it is because in many ways they are anti-Americans, promoting ant-American values. JJ.

Fighting for Liberty

Both Jackie Gingrich Cushman and Phyllis Schlafly (see “Obamacare versus Freedom”) defend the freedoms of those who live in rich gated communities. Such people can afford their own security guards, health care, private schools, and their own parks and recreational areas. They don’t need no stinking government aid. As for the rest of us? We also don’t need no stinking welfare state or safety net. The solution is “get a job.” This advice ignores the disastrous economic policies inherited from the Bush administration leading to job losses not job creation. It also ignores right-wing resistance to public job creation programs. Ridiculous and disgusting. JJ.

A Tyrannical Act

Jason Jr. Wrote: Mar 24, 2010 1:27 AM
The American revolutionaries of 1776 revolted against George III because he was a tyrant who would have deprived them of their rights to life, liberty, and property (in that order). Present day conservatives are so concerned about protecting their precious property rights that they are willing to allow tens of thousands of their fellow Americans to die from lack of proper health care coverage. This is tyranny of the worse sort because it disavows any responsibilities for our fellow citizens and is so well concealed. JJ.
