I lived in north central ohio in the winter of 1978, 35 years ago in late January. I lived on the second floor above a bar, right on the square, next to the courthouse and the sheriff's office. I woke up that morning with snow drifts halfway up my windows! That was about twenty feet off the ground. The alley beside the building was comparitvely empty, because the wind out of the South simply used it as a tunnel to continue on north. The Sheriff's office next door, was also drifted in above the second story. They punched a tunnel out from inside the office out into the alley. Now THAT was a blizzard.

Before anybody laughs, it was uphill both ways with no shoes ... B^)

no, no, no, that 1996 storm wasn't the Great Blizzard, it was the Moderately Great Blizzard.

We had 3 blizzards in '78. This is only the anniversary of one. And at that time all the global warmists were predicting another ice age. I guess they gave that up because the cold didn't provide enough reasons for hating oil and taxing energy use.

Right, Jane, having grown up above the Arctic Circle in Norway I cannot remember
any schools from elementary on up ever closing due to snow. You kidding ! Get skis;
they work.

Blizzard Nemo is bearing down on the Northeast- hence the term nor’easter to describe it- so prepare for the folks at Fashion Week, now being held in New York City, to be out in force battling the storm.

“The organizers of New York's Fashion Week,” reports the CSMonitor,  “a closely watched series of fashion shows held under a big tent – said they will have extra crews to help with snow removal and will turn up the heat and add an extra layer to the venue.”

We can only hope that they wear furs.

Because we’ll need blizzards of hilarity...
