And they still don't even understand what they've done. And they don't care, even if they do understand, because they're still getting all their free stuff. I was planning to invest in my business and maybe get to a point where I'd need to hire some help, but not any more. I'm going to keep it small because I simply can't afford everything that comes along with hiring. If I need help, I'll hire temps or contractors. Meanwhile, I'm keeping my day job as a contractor so I can stash away as much money as possible. Thanks, Obysmal, for making life even harder.

james ,you are right.they made their choice,their bed,now they can lay in it. for most people,just tighten your spending, shop discount stores,get all cleaning,laundry prodcuts at "dollar tree",been doing so for quite a while.half my xmas tree is from there,with xmas balls from michael's, jo-ann's , christmas tree and old time pottery. for groceries,check for buy one,get one. one can manage !! pl,orl,fla

Just a word of caution Patti, All those bargains you mention exist because of surplus in our production. when times get hard there won't be ant surplus and no bargains. You should prepare to forgo the Christmas tree and stock up on stuff you'll need to survive.

OK, perhaps doom is too strong a word, but then again, perhaps it is not. 

In either event, 2013 is not shaping up to be a banner year for the economy. And it’s not just or even mostly because of the fiscal cliff.

Our financial system is not stronger now than it was in 2008 when it finally collapsed under the weight of crashing real estate prices that fell all the harder because they were ballasted by plenty of government guaranteed debt.
