It’s just this type of reasoning that has the GOP reeling. Keeping taxes low sounds like a good thing, but lower taxes without lower spending is nothing more than throwing gasoline on a fire. The (twelve year) temporary Bush tax cuts did exactly that because GOP continued to spend without the revenue. And now they are trying to claim victory for making the Bush tax cuts permanent. Yet, still unwilling to cut a measly 1.71% (the amount of the sequestration) from spending? You might think that’s funny. I think it is inexcusable.

The fiscal cliff debacle showed conclusively that the GOP establishment is a completely ineffective guardian of our liberties against President Obama and the Washington ruling class. Forget fantasies about reversing the growth of the state, let alone stopping such growth; Boehner’s boys can’t even slow it down.

The fight over the debt ceiling is shaping up to be more of the same. This week, Obama announced that he is not going to negotiate over the debt ceiling. Republicans are in shock, but the rest of the country is in shock that the Republicans...
