In the 19yh century, long before Popery became a major presence in the US, the Presbyterian theologian, Robert Louis Dabney wrote an article on "The Attractions of Popery" which forsaw the rise of Roman Catholicism as it is today, even as it once was before the Protestant Reformation. It is all about show and pomp, and superstitution, and power. Now we have Protestant denominations and churches following suit.
