Ronald Reagan was much more moderate than the Neaderthals running the Republican Party today. He legalized abortion in California in 1967, 6 years before Roe Vs. Wade. He legalized no-fault divorce in California in 1969. He support was crucial in Defeating Proposition 6 which banned GLBT's from being school teachers in California. As President he gave amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants in 1986. He wouldn' t make it out of a Republican Primary these days.

The most successful Republican presidential candidate of the past half century-- Ronald Reagan, who was elected and reelected with landslide victories-- bore little resemblance to the moderate candidates that Republican conventional wisdom depicts as the key to victory, even though most of these moderate candidates have in fact gone down to defeat.
