I disagree. The FairTax is better because of the Prebate. The flat tax untaxes spending up to the level of poverty. The sales tax paid on purchases above the poverty level are only on new goods. Minimum wage is above $7. Low wage jobs barely pay for the true living expenses.. and nicer or newer technology needs. I think the poverty line actually is way too low.. especially during bad times. How does our economy grow when we tax more those who want to spend more..??

I’m at Hillsdale College in Michigan for a conference on taxation. The event is called “The Federal Income Tax: A Centenary Consideration,” though I would have called it something like “100 Years of Misery from the IRS.”
