Are We Headed for a Fight with China?

Can't see much basis for Mr. Chapman's preference for China's foreign policy over the United States' foreign policy. The U.S. goes to war against mass-murdering dictators, China supports these dictators at every turn and sells them the earth-moving equipment for any needed mass graves. If Afghanistan-based terrorists had flown planes into skyscrapers in Peking, China would have flattened the entire country and annexed it.
The Cleveland Clinic has already announced a policy of increasing health insurance premiums for its employees who don't meet weight guidelines.
As bloated and unproductive as government is, and as ridiculous as its growth has been, I still find it hard to believe that Mr. French's figure of a sixfold increase in government employees from 6 million to 38 million in just twenty years is really accurate.

George W. Bush was opposed to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security . The Democrats, who controlled the Senate in 2001-2002, insisted on creating it. They saw the opportunity to create a huge, juicy new Washington bureaucracy and a (unionized) Transportation Safety Agency. Democratic Senator Zell Miller was so disgusted by what he saw the Democrats saying and doing in their private meetings that he became a speaker at the Republican National Convention in 2004, and endorsed Bush for reelection.
You hit the nail right on the head, Joshua! What we need is a large, well-publicized umbrella organization on the right, that works toward environmental protection, but from an explicitly pro-capitalism perspective, and includes the word "Conservationist" in its name.

I believe Ms. Coulter's description of the Willie Horton ad issue does not give an entirely accurate impression. It is true that the national ads on the issue run by his campaign organization did not include a photo of Willie Horton. As I recall, however, two state Republican party organizations ran local ads in their states that did include photos of Mr. Horton

And You Say Conservatism Is Dying?

It really is kind of odd that the left refers fondly to the days of civility when people like William F. Buckley were the leading conservatives. People on the left were not particularly civil to William F. Buckley, in fact they called him every name they could think of throughout his career. E.g., Gore Vidal calling him a "Nazi" on national television, or the president of the International Machinists Union calling him "an intellectual prostitute".
