But if everyone is free to marry a person of either sex, then everyone is held to the same standard. Right?
You didn't read it either, did you? It was a news article relating the results of an internal investigation: the investigations is what matters. Besides, the headline actually turns out to be accurate.

This is a pretty good example of how people can write something and not even grasp what they wrote. The primary drift of the article is that same sex marriage should be a state's rights issue. Yet, the author also decries the Washington State florists case where the residents of the state decided what was and was not illegal in terms of discrimination case. Sorry, but you can't have this both ways.

It is not irrelevant, for a number of reasons. For one thing, thousands of years of discrimination create a culture that has grown from thousands of years of discrimination. For another, many people still think that discrimination should be acceptable and/or legal, and want to write it into law (DOMA). Perhaps most importantly, the willingness to ignore that history indicates an underlying unwillingness to deal with reality, and we can see that results of that in many of the posts by conservatives here.

Anominus wrote: "Except that, these days, the "public opprobrium" only applies to those who dare to oppose or disagree with homosexuals." While its not completely true, there is still plenty of public animosity toward gay folk (uh townhall?) its a reality. I must admit it is almost hilarious that people should be so breathlessly upset that they now have to endure what gay people endured for thousands of years.

Anominus...you appear to making an argument ad ignorantum. Homosexuals have been subject to thousands of years of discrimination in any number of ways, including murder, physical attacks, imprisonment, forfeiture of property, loss of children, and so on.
