What you're forgetting is that "what they went through" is pretty much behind us. It is not over for gays, and many of them are also racial minorities. Growing up Conservative& Traditional can be far worse than growing up black, because the Conservative & Traditional kid may have to face a hostile family as well as a hostile society. And from the vitriol expressed in these posts, it's easy to see why. Working toward equal rights for everyone, including Conservatives & Traditionalists, is not insulting to anyone.

Yes! That man knows how to manage a large entity. He also knows his way around the politics of Washington. Bush could have learned more about being President had Cheney served one term as such.

Suzanne, Part of the joy of reading comes form the tactile sensation of holding that book, pamphlet, magazine, etc in one's hand. In doing so, one becomes more intimately involved with the words. Also, much like an analog clock, versus a digital one, the bookmark helps one to achieve spacial reference whilst engrossed in the tome. It can emphasize the anxious feeling for resolution, lead one's imagine to how the author will resolve the dilemma in the remaining pages allotted, etc. a digital screen is a digital screen. In addition, the cynic in me believes that Orwellian mischief will be afoot if only digital words are available. Today, the story ends one way; tomorrow, who knows? With all the controversy in the current day about...

Am I to understand that during the past 50 years, Cuba became the toilet it is because the US has an embargo against it? Are there not over 220 other countries in the world? Do they not have economies? Do they also have an embargo against Cuba? How can one country, the US of A, be the sole reason CUBA is a a third world sewer? Let them trade with everyone else. Most likely, other recipients of US largess are using our beneficence to trade with Cuba. If we do trade with Cuba, can we trade Obama for a good left-fielder?

As opposed to vanity. The men, both, had pride in their work and couldn't accept less than their best. Unfortunately, this slipshod style had become the norm.

It holds for our politicians, too, perhaps, even more so.

So, am I to believe that Mr Madison intended free speech rights to extend to the interruption and desecration of a private matter by a party that has no standing in that matter?

Phelps and his ilk intrude where they have not been invited and preach their dogma where it is not welcome.

The Ninth Amendment states that the enumeration of rights in the Amendments does not deny or reduce other rights retained by the people. Does this not infer that the mourners' right to properly bury their dead should not be impeded, interrupted or intruded upon by others?

Originally, the Founders did not enumerate rights that came from God, or Nature's God as was the appellation used by Deists of the day. But, because, then as now,...

Seems to me, 36 years ago, my wife and I made a promise to love each other. It might be a bit simplistic, but to quote Forrest Gump, "A promise, is a promise."

Give your word and keep it.
