FDR may have said that, but his actions implemented the very programs he disdained. Quoting FDR is not quite the method I would use to discredit the bankrupted policies of the current version of FDR. If anything, social security was the first entitlement program enacted by an American government. Even FDR fell into the pit when his NRA program required butchers to sell the first chicken out of the coop rather than the white feathered one the customer wanted. It is just such nannying that we are seeing from the Federal level, at the local level, think Mikey Bloomburg with his soda and salt bans. We gave these politicians this power, we can and should take it away.

I realize what FDR did, and I certainly am among those who don't admire him or his legacy. However, without considering the source, I still like the quote. Unfortunately, when I looked it up (State of the Union 1934), he followed it with an extremely liberal agenda of what to do next. Wilson started this progressive garbage; Obama just proves "garbage in; garbage out." What is wrong with wanting to live our lives and be responsible for ourselves and our families? I know help is occasionally needed; that's for charitable organization. The government has specific duties as outlined in the Constitution. All those who are sworn in agreeing to follow it LIE!

The grotesque spectacle of the State of the Union address, with its lengthy receiving line of adoring sycophants, demonstrates why the President is operating under the delusion that he is more than just our President. Like him, many people seem to fundamentally misunderstand his role. He’s not our “leader,” or our “ruler,” or our national “daddy,” no matter what his adoring fan, comic Chris Rock, thinks.

Let’s clarify things for those folks with the unseemly desire to offer up their personal sovereignty to some government hack. Unlike Hollywood geniuses better known for exposing their breasts than exposing their brains, I'll...
