True, but that misses a larger point. The US was going through it's Progressive Fever. The domestic damage was done. But WWI allowed the fool Wilson to harm the whole world with his ludicrous involvement as Versailles. Its depressing that even after 100 years the horrific error of WWI is not widely seen as an act of criminal insanity on the part of the leadership class of every nation that got involved.

WWI was a war about nothing that an unleashed unimaginable disaster on civilization. WW1 lead to the rise of Nazism. Communism. It created the political conditions in today's Middle East and the Balkans. The verdict of history should be that the 'great and the good' can destroy everything and get away with it. They can unleash a blizzard of lies and nonsense. "War to End War", "War to make the world safe for democracy" and then never, ever be found guilty of criminal governmental malpractice.
