....like Mubarak of Egypt. Yet Mona Charen wants American boots on the ground to stop such uprising. As for Iran, is Mona Charen crazy? The Iranians will not be a cake walk. The Iranians have the ability to close down the Strait of Hormuz and attack American forces on a scale that makes Iraq and Afghanistan look like child’s play. Large scale military invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan by the Bush-Cheney cabal have meet with failure. They have been too prolonged, costly, and wasteful of lives and treasury. Obama is now following a different script that is less costly. Iso

...advisors, by way of the Pakistani military and intelligence, supported any and all groups resisting Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. While the policy was successful in driving out the Red Army, it left the most powerful, the most anti-Western, the most anti-American, the most Islamic fundamentalists groups in charge, i.e. the Taliban. Bush II administration incompetency was to start a war of choice not necessity against a dictator who served American interest more often than not. Saddam Hussein like most autocrats of the Middle East served American interest by brutally suppressing anti-American as well as anti-regime Islamic Fundamentalism. Now we are reaping the results with the Arab Spring uprisings that are overthrowing US clients..

The Neo-Con Script: Mona Charen attacks President Obama for not following the Right-Wing Neo-Con script that got us involved in two failed wars. She claims he is following an intellectual tradition that blames America first. Not true. If anything Obama has followed the Bush-Cheney foreign policy script to a fault. He has kept Bush era procedures for operations like the one that killed bin Laden. He has kept Guantanamo open instead of closing it as promised. He has kept the Bush era policies of renditioning, and holding suspected terrorists indefinitely without charges or trial. If it is lack of respect she thinks the world is not giving us, then blame the incompetency of the Reagan and Bush W foreign policy. President Reagan and his...
...further weaken American Democracy. We need to maintain an American Democracy that is dominated by the middle classes and in which prosperity is shared. The wealthy few and their ability to destroy democracy and create a plutocracy have to be curtailed, not with authoritarianism, which is how they would solve their problems, but with more not less democracy. This is how we should determine who is aiding, abetting, and enabling fascism in America. iso

...eviscerate middle class entitlements to further fund tax breaks for the wealthy. To pull the ‘safety-net’ out from under middle American will complete the destruction of the American middle class. Also, no amount of personal charity can take care of large numbers of people who are victims of recession, depression, and failed economic policies. As FDR noted before introducing the New Deal, a third of the population was ill clothed, housed, and fed. Without government relief, direct and work, no amount of private charity could have diverted a human disaster. Yet Thomas Sowell wants to give us platitudes about how generous rich conservative donors are. Iso

....and middle class families to rely on public assistance. These are the same people who rely on government ‘handouts’ and subsidies to get by like the earned-income credit, free school lunches and breakfast for their kids, Medicare and Social Security in old age. How do these Right-Wingers make the case that government is the enemy when it is middle and working class Americans who are increasingly dependent upon the government to subsidize their lives, i.e. welfare as a safety net? One explanation is Middle Americans have been completely brainwashed by Right-Wing propaganda They have drank so much of the kool-aid and have watched so much Faux News, they no longer know where their real interest lie. The Romney-Ryan budget will ....

Hammock or Safety Net? Right-Wingers like to put the problem of dependency in those terms. But Thomas Sowell has not been looking at the stats and studies that show that red-states are more dependent upon the Federal government for assistance than blue states. The Feds spends more in red states than it collects in taxes from red states. However, the greater the dependence, the greater is the support for Right-Wing Republican candidates not Democratic ones. On that point, Sowell is wrong. The people who are most dependent vote Right-Wing. Sowell is correct to say that more people than ever are dependent upon the hammock/safety net. Thirty years of failed Reaganomics, supply side economics, and recession has caused more and more working...
