Because unions support Democrats. Churches that support Democrats may also speak their political opinions freely, and do. Black, inner city churches preach politics without fear, and have never been threatened by the IRS. We have a one-party governmental system, that continues to permit the existence of an alternate party only because ancient, obsolete laws prevent outlawing it directly. That will change soon.

2012 may be miserable -- but if it is, it won't be because corporations spend on politics. And anyway, they have a right to spend.
