The New York Times Gets Life Support

Who can truly say where the "Times" will be in another year or two? No one. But we can observe the particular flavor and color of the rag and deduce that even those who love its content and bias have no intention of paying money to help keep it afloat. You see, those who support what the "Times" is, have the revolutionary mind-set of OWS. For them and their fellow ideological travellers, it's the responsibility of gooberment to take over, print and distribute the paper to anyone who wishes it for "free." Just what's wrong with that? After all, this helps everybody doesn't it?

The common stock of the New York Times (NYSE: NYT) plunged from $10.87 last week to a close of $8.19 on Friday after the liberal mouthpiece announced that its 3rd quarter net income dropped 85 percent.

While analysts are blaming soft advertising revenues, I think something more ominous is happening at America’s national, bleeding-heart newspaper.

(Editor's note: I'm taking a few days off. I'll see you guys again on Tuesday with a crop of Email and Hate Mail)

For sure, advertising revenues are dropping nationally as economic conditions have deteriorated over the last two quarters.
