But John, we all know thatt the "market" is anathema to the Dem/Prog/Lib cabal. The "market" represents individual liberty and freedom of choice. Dem/Prog/Lib cabal members will never abide this type situation. If they did so, too many folks would come to believe in the irrelevance of their "god" gooberment. Any type initiative or independant action taken by persons in our society represents a direct threat to the absolute control over peoples lives with which gooberment maintains power. Common sense and semi-free market forces operating for the benefit of the individual? Can't be allowed. Gooberment wants no competition. It demands absolutism in order to justify its every intrusion into our daily lives.

The idea behind a grand bargain to get the federal budget deficit under control is a simple one. Republicans agree to tax increases and Democrats agree to spending cuts.

In a previous post I warned that this could be a trap for Republicans, just like similar budget deals have been in the past.

There are two problems. First, the tax increases will hit immediately, while the spending cuts will be mainly in the future.
