In spite of the rhetoric, the 2nd is seen by Democrats for what it is. They just don’t want it to interfere with their plans for “Control” of the people. They talk trash, redirect and attempt to redefine original intent but they “know”. As for the Republicans, there are some who are weak and if that weakness causes deviation from the “original intent”, they know the wrath of the gun owning voter will come.

As they lose this argument, they will divert to using another event, never letting a crisis go to waste. A real one like leaving schools undefended against gun wielding mental cases, or a manufactured one.
They were losing the battle to make believe Fast & Furious exposed what they are. Move on.
They were losing the battle to make Ben Ghazi the result of a man using his free speech rights with an obscure video. Move on.
Say what they want, and get the uninformed parasitic vote as they might, the gun dealers are seeing a boom in gun purchases. Many a politician, like Corey Booker, are silent, but may be hiding real agreement with the various city officials that say ' get a gun, and keep your family safe'.
