In response to:

Time for You to Address Violence in Black Communities, Mr. Obama

I have to ask why does BHO or anyone in politics have to address 'the real epidemic of violence in black communities'? Why isn't this problem handled by the "good citizens" within the community. Why does it always have to be a problem for someone else to solve? Why does it have to be a tax payers concern?

Because government is a leading cause of the epidemic violence in black communities. Economic policies promoting out-of-wedlock births and absentee fathers, a poor education system lacking meaningful accountability, economic policies that discourage job development and employment opportunities, a law enforcement and justice system that all too often fails to protect the innocent, a lack of meaningful gun-use reform, a lack of meaningful solutions addressing the problems created by deep-seated institutionalized racism lead to the need for government to do something so the good citizens of the community can actually do something.

Well, there's a difference between prominent blacks who are regarded as "leaders" by and in the black community and the government. Obama is highly regarded in that community and if he would actually come out and address this issue it would have a major impact, given his relative position of influence.

His speaking on the subject does not necessarily mean that the government, per se, has to be involved.

I mean, hey, if we're gonna fantasize here, why not go all the way?

Dear Mr. Obama,

This week Hadiya Pendleton was shot and murdered in Chicago just days after performing with high school marching band at your second inauguration.

She was a majorette in addition to playing volleyball and being an honor student at King College Prep High School.

My plea to you is you attend her funeral.

My plea is that after the funeral you address the entire nation in prime time and discuss an epidemic that's eroding our nation and destroying millions of dreams.

That is the real epidemic of violence in black communities

There is no better example than your hometown of Chicago or Chi-Raq as many locals have begun to call...
