I'm hoping the NRA will help to initiate a program, to present to our law makers, that will tighten up on gun owners after they’ve been checked out and cleared for any type of weapon ownership. There is absolutely no follow up to make sure that weapons bought by those approved are taking the precautions to make sure their weapons will not end up causing incidents like we’ve seen over the last decade.

Why should the NRA do anything different? Why should the NRA propose more stringent gun control when the BATFE is already violating those controls by the thousands? The very BATFE that would supposedly have the job of ensuring compliance with those more stringent controls?

That's like putting the Mafia in charge of guarding Fort Knox.

the NRA shows they are in favor of and support responsible gun ownership and use EVERY day.

you idiots sure don't know much about the NRA. You speak from ignorance.

the WEAPONS are not -causing- these massacres. Write that down 1000 times.

In a free country, the government cannot require gun owners to submit to periodic mental health checks without violating their 4th Amendment rights.

Also, this is the perfect opportunity for the NRA to show they are much more in favor of responsible gun ownership than most gun owners are. A follow up program similar to what many countries require can do more good than anything and can be implemented faster than trying to change the constitution’s 2nd amendment.
Leaving it to the present Administration to come up with a plan will only result in something that will take more money from the tax payer’s pockets. Their answer to all problems seems to be just tax it.

Did you even read the article dipstick?

The unimaginable horror of Sandy Hook jumpstarts another "national conversation" about firearm violence. President Barack Obama, promising "meaningful action," said: "We will have to change. ... We can't tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end."

Let's examine four of the "commonsense" measures frequently proposed by "gun control advocates":

One, closing the "gun show loophole." What gun show loophole? Restricted from selling at guns shows prior to 1986, a licensed dealer today requires a background check whether he sells guns at a store, a gun show or the back of his SUV.

Two, banning "high-capacity" magazines. One of...
