I'll never underestimate the Republicans ability to trip over their own feet. But I would like to see them start to make more aggressive plays in traditionaly blue areas. A more libertarian approach could work in many areas of NY, where people are fed up with the same old corrupt pols and the only debate happening on the left. The libs have controlled NY longer than the Soviets controlled Russia.

Actually some scientists do classify them as sapiens, hence: Homo sapiens neanderthalensis And since there is genetic evidence of neanderthal-modern man interbreeding in modern humans today, it seemed appropriate to give the benefit of the doubt.
Hey Andy, why don't you finish cleaning up after hurricane Sandy and find out what the bill will be before you start killing future taxpayers. This guy is a fascist. I like how he strips us of our actual freedoms, and tries to replace them with these new "freedoms". Too bad there's no one in NY with the guts to stand up to these guys.

Sure it is. Who promotes drugs, underage sex, homosexual sex, no fault divorce, "hooking up", single parenthood, and consequence free lives? You go through all of your hateful name calling of Republicans, Conservatives and Christians, and yet showing restraint, delaying gratification, acting responsibly (taking care of the children you father) as you describe as prudish, narrow-minded and intolerant are actually the keys to a stable society, a sure predictor of future prosperity, and guarantors of long healthy lives. Freedom demands responsibility.

If it hasn't triumphed, its doing a very good impersonation. Sexual license is everywhere. And our government and popular culture rewards irresponsible behavior. We know that single parent families are doomed to poverty. Yet more and more Americans are coming from single parent families, except for one group. The highly educated. The elites ensure the status for their offspring. Its like they say "Go ahead have sex in high-school, do drugs, oh, but I'm not going to do it." Interesting twist on "Do as I say, not as I do."

I think what's really interesting is the triumph of hedonism in our society despite the centuries of evidence that it destroys societies. And this from the bunch that claims to believe in science. Which they don't of course. They only believe in science enough to use it a cudgel against their enemies. The funny thing is we've been so hopeless in the counter-argument. We haven't shown the evidence that the "traditional values"/Christian lifestyle is superior to the hedonistic one. We haven't shown how "traditional values" is a relatively new societal development considering humanity's half-million year existence. Of all the advancement that has come to humanity from it. We're never going to make being responsible "cool".
One of the things I've noticed is that social conservatives and traditional values are bashed for being "religiously based" and thus non-scientific at best and ignorant superstitions at worst. When in actuality traditional values have been proven time and again to be the most beneficial way for an individual to live. The left advocates unfettered hedonism. We know it doesn't work. What we need to do is make the reality based case that hedonism doesn't work and that "traditional"/christian/normal values do.
