You do not understand Aquinas if you think that he is advocating socialism.

Aquinas is saying that God gives you your material possessions, so you should be willing to voluntarily share with those in need. He is certainly NOT advocating a socialist or communist form of government.

To some liberals charity is the central government playing Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Only in the Robin Hood stories, he was stealing from those who got rich by aligning themselves with a corrupt government.
