Here’s the ONLY gun law that should ever exist: Compel the Dept. of Justice to compile a list of all convicted felons who have not had their rights re-instated, and keep it current. Then provide a current copy of that list to all licensed firearms dealers – prohibiting them (under penalty of law) from knowingly selling guns or ammo to them. The only burden on the purchaser, would be to show ID - but only to the extent that his State government requires ID in order to vote. Walk in with cash - walk out with a gun - except for felons. Thus, there really is no need for background-checks, forms, questionnaires, registration, or sales-records. This simple approach will be just as effective as all 22,000 current gun-laws - maybe more so.
I commend Mr. Ong for his exceptionally enlightened speech in defense of the single most important American principle - the inalienable right to arms. God bless him. Since we have apparently dispensed with the constitutional requirement for eligibility - I propose to nominate Mr. Ong as the Republican Party candidate for president in 2016.

You may think it's "sarcasm", but that is how their minds actually operate. I won't say "that's how they think", because they rarely ever do such strenuous mental activity. Mostly, they rely exclusively on 'feelings' - because logic and reason is just way too harsh.

Well, it's only because the criminals and lunatics aren't following the law. Perhaps if we had an out-reach program to help them understand the importance of full-compliance, then they might be more cooperative. Or, if we helped them feel more included, they would develop a ‘team-spirit’ and a ‘can-do’ attitude – that would translate into obeying the law. Then we can all just hold hands and sing songs, and be so happy. But if that doesn’t work, then we just need to pass a law that requires the criminals and lunatics to obey the law.

That might be good for the would-be victim, but it could be exceedingly hazardous for the murderous lunatic.

There’s only a couple million violent criminals and lunatics – so how much carnage can they really cause anyway? And if we can help them feel confident that no one will ever be able make them feel threatened or intimidated, then maybe they wouldn’t feel so compelled to acquire machine-guns from renegade ATF-agents, or steal so many guns from other places. Or at least they might consider extending the courtesy of leaving their unlawfully acquired guns at their hide-outs – instead of carrying them on every single violent endeavor. We just need to stop antagonizing them, and maybe they won’t be so mean.

If the murderous-lunatics would simply take the time to study and fully comprehend all the (22,000) gun-laws, they might be more inclined to actually follow them. And they would realize there are so many other (better) alternatives to guns – hammers, chainsaws, machetes – none of which are banned or even infringed. If they would just play by the rules, then we can all be happy (other than the innocent victims and their families, anyway).

Exactly! Can you imagine how much more confusing it would have been?

Because - while the mass-murderers are usually quite adept at slaughtering with minimum collateral carnage - when an armed private citizen gets involved, then the murderer could get nervous or distracted - possibly causing him to accidentally shoot unintended innocents - and the citizen might not follow proper gun-safety procedures, such that bystanders could feel intimidated or frightened. And if the murderer decides to shoot at the citizen, he could miss and accidentally hit other unintended victims. Plus, when the police arrive, they need to be able to just kill everyone with a gun - it's so much easier on them if they don't have to think or make decisions.

Because NRA-members are compliant and docile - while the violent criminals are mean, scary, and belligerent. If we can eliminate all armed opposition for the criminals, then maybe they would consider being more gentle and merciful - as they rob, rape, assault, and murder, the defenseless innocent. Well, we can at least hope that they would consider it. And it IS all about hope - right?
