I can't help noticing that you simply dismiss the notion that allowing gay couples to marry would be basic fairness out of hand, rather than either showing it to be untrue or, as good sense requires if you wish to retain limits in the face of a claim that removing them would be fairer, PROVING that getting rid of the restriction would be harmful. And yes, the burden of proof belongs on those who wish regulations to be more restrictive rather than less, regardless of what they currently are.
