There are laws in place in Canada and Mexico setting the prices. As long as the drug doesn't cost more to manufacture than the pharma earns selling it, they will accept those price controls and pass all of the R&D costs on to the U.S. market. That's business. But if the U.S. tries to impose he same costs, there will no money to be made developing new drugs (and a lot to be lost). The industry will all but disappear. It's got nothing to do with being nice or fair. It's simply business.

I do appreciate those ads on TV, not because they tell me there's a new drug "that might be right for me," but because they tell us all the side effects. "May cause death or blindness," now there's some important information. I have never, ever had a doctor tell me about the side effects of a drug he wants to give me, so the ads are the first time you hear it. I hope people are listening.

so, hvogel, you are ok with subsidizing Canada's and Mexico's health care?
Manufacturing cost to make the meds is very tiny compared to the retail price. You're right, the cost of R & D is enormous so are the ads they bombard us with.

I for one hope the healthcare and drug business fails. It is not God's way, it is the work of the flesh, apart from God. The Lord still heals, we do not need doctors or drugs! When the Lord heals, there's no cost, no painful surgeries or no ill side affects. People, the world, especially the US, is under judgment. Read the bible, it happens over and over again when a stiff necked stubborn people turn their backs on the Lord and decide to do it their way, the painful hard way, rather than repent and turn to the Lord for the simple pain free life of Chirst. And the Bride calls, Come Lord, Come quickly! You all need to repent and turn to the Lord, who will give you peace that surpasses understanding and if you're not well, heal you freely!

Biotech company Excelixis CEO George Scangos likes to quote oil wildcatter JP Getty when asked about his philosophy for success: “Get up early; work hard; find oil,” he deadpans.

And under the direction of dry-humored Scangos, the San Francisco-based company is drilling a lot of research holes, so to speak.

They have to: Success in the biotech industry is measured incrementally, not in big steps. It’s a cash-and-time intensive industry where success is painstaking, rare and, because of Obamacare and other regulatory burdens from the administration, likely to become even rarer.

According to Plunkett Research, Ltd in 2010 it...
