they tried the same crap in vegas but the vegas mounted police kept these kooks on a very short leash. you could tell they were frustrated being forced to do their demonstration march within the confines of the bike lane stripes on the road. if they even attempted to step out from the bike lane, and up onto the main sidewalks with all of the normal people, the cops on horseback we're right there telling them that if they stepped out of the bike lane again, they would be arrested at the next intersection where there was a group of cops just waiting to see who was pointed out for arrest. oh yeah, the casinos also had their goon squads out front to make sure none of these screwballs tried to disrupt their businesses.

The human brain is torn between simple intuition and the more complex hard work of figuring out the unintended consequences of any policy. Who doesn't like thinking about trees and greenery and happy animals? Who doesn't want to see steps taken to protect those things, all else being equal? But all else is not equal. Civilization doesn't work when central planners treat each tree as if its value is infinite.
