So you threw the entire article out the window for that last line...typical pick & choose. Sounds like some people who go to certain kinds of churches who base their entire doctrine on one or two verses in the Bible and throw the rest out.

Thanks for bringing that up, Houziwang! I will throw it out for the FIRST two lines, as well! Goldberg began the piece by writing, "The Republicans are doomed. Conservatism is over.", as though he were implying there is some 'linkage' or 'connection' between the subject of the 1st sentence and the subject of the second sentence. There is NOT. The GOP leadership at the national level has proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. The GOP is very possibly headed the way of the Whigs; Conservatism is not.

The Republicans are doomed. Conservatism is over. President Obama is conducting a mop-up operation at this point.

That's the basic consensus in places like New York City, Washington, D.C., and other citadels of blue America.

And let's be fair, liberals have every reason to gloat -- a little. The GOP has its troubles. Long-term demographic trends; often-irrational animosity from Hollywood, the media and academia; a thumbless grasp of the culture on the part of many Republicans: All of these things create a headwind for the party and the broader conservative movement.
