Academic Malpractice Part 818

Per your article, students should be able to sue universities that teach them lessons that jeopardize their health and safety. I would take that a step farther. The theatre goers that prevented patrons from legally carrying guns should be held liable when they did not offer armed protection from a crazed shooter. If they prohibit self defense, they should be legally liable for providing it.

What about city/state/territories that needlessly restrict ownership? I really like the signs in the US Post Office stating the firearms, policy and then watching a Police Officer stroll in.

Police officers are exempt from those laws, unless off duty and in plain clothes.

You do mean theatre owners, don't you?

Theatre owners passed a law in that city that no one could carry a gun on private property ?? Or was it the city ??

BFANCI-
The theater owners posted their own "No Weapons in This Facility" signs, as there was no ordinance that I am aware of prohibiting it.

I think they might be in for a big lawsuit in that case!

ADR - I saw my mistake immediately after posting (I hate when that happens) and have been irritated about it all day. I looked for an edit function, but didn't see one. The word 'goers' should be deleted, x'd out or otherwise eliminated. Best regards, HSE

Well stated. The implementation of such a policy would make our would-be protectors think beyond the superficial feel-good actions they are so quick to put forth. The occurrence of unintended consequences would drop dramatically. Of course, the idea of such individuals going through that thinking/problem solving process is anathema to most of them.
Author’s Note: This is the 818th column I have written since September of 2003. If you are tired of hearing about liberal hypocrisy in academia, please do not read this latest offering. If you like guns, however, keep reading.

Dear Professor Hoplophobe (pseudonym):

First I would like to thank you for your willingness to discuss Second Amendment issues despite our deep disagreement about the scope and applicability of this important constitutional right. The first time we broached the issue, the tenor of our discussion was less than civil. Since then, you have agreed to continue...
