When this first started I asked myself which of my firearms I'd use to protect myself. 30.06 would certainly do the job, but it's bolt action is slow, so if you miss on the first shot you're screwed. Then I thought about the fact that this guy was an ex-cop, so I assumed he'd probably be wearing a kevlar jacket, so my shotgun and handguns would probably be useless. Then I thought about my trusty AR15. The one that fires the 5.56 NATO round. The round that *penetrates* kevlar jackets...Hmmm. Which weapon to defend myself with...

If you are slow with a bolt gun it is because you have not practiced. Go to Gunsite and take the general rifle class - you won't be screwed again if you miss the first time (which you likely wouldn't).

BTW, there are AR uppers in .30-06 (Cobb).
