To Bastiat I actually read where the U.S. paid Israel to stay out of the 1st Iraq war. If a remember correctly a scud missile landed in Israel and Israel didn't retaliate so there must be some truth to it.

I remember it very well. I was in the Army Reserve at the time and my unit was on alert to be activated. Due to my position on the battalion, I actually was on active duty for a time in support of Desert Storm.
