Israel Is On Its Own In War Against Terrorism

To wpqt At 9:39 you mentioned Iran is at war with the U.S. Does the U.S. military have warships off Iran's coast or vice-versa? Iran is 6,500 miles away at doesn't have a Navy or Air Force to speak off. How is this war going to happen? Will Iran blow up some swimming pools inner tubes and head out on the high seas for a D-Day type invasion of the U.S.?

1979 US Embassy invasion and hostage seizure = act of war
Two US embassy bombings = act of war
1983 Marine Barracks bombing = act of war
1996 Khobar Towers bombing = act of war
Iranian IEDs,arms and training to Afghan and Iraq insurgents = act of war.
Saudi ambassador assassination plot = act of war

We have PLENTY of justification for dropping a bomb into Iran.

Herman,

I found this picture of Revolutionary Guard commander Sinbad from DEBKA:

In 1979, the new Iranian regime took our embassy personnel hostage and humiliated the United States for over a year.
In 1983, Iran, along with Syria, was complicit in the bombing of the U.S. marine barracks and embassy in Lebanon which killed over 300 Americans
In 1996, Iran was responsible for the Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia which killed another 19 Americans.
Iran has been supplying arms to the insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan which have killed hundreds of American soldiers.
Iran has forged alliances of convenience with Al-Quaida and is trading nuclear technology with North Korea.
Iran is currently developing long range missiles which could, in a few years, reach the United States.
Sounds like war.

"In 1979, the new Iranian regime took our embassy personnel hostage and humiliated the United States for over a year."

And of course YOU want revenge - and my kids to pay for it with their tax money, I guess.

"Will Iran blow up some swimming pools inner tubes and head out on the high seas for a D-Day type invasion of the U.S.?"

Herman,

You know better than this. Everybody knows that the Iranians have an invasion fleet assembled at Bandar Abbas. The fleet consists of dhows. I believe the commander of the fleet is some dude named Sinbad.
wpqr Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 10:51 AM
i don't want revenge. I want to keep America safe and I believe Iran is a very real, dangerous threat. Have you heard of an EMP attack? If Iran develops a nuclear device they can put it onto a cargo ship and detonate in our atmosphere. Do you have any idea the damage it could do? In a worse case scenario, 90% of the U.S. population can be wiped out. And many in the military and intelligence communities believe this is a real possiblilty. (I can give you their names if you want.)

"I can give you their names if you want."

Please do.

I already know that Gingrich is one of the people making a big deal over an EMP attack.

Lt. General (ret.) Thomas McInerney, Air Force; member of the Iran Policy Committee;

Brigadier General (ret.) Ken Chrosniak, U.S. Army War College, Bronze Star recipient;

Reza Kahlili, Ex-CIA spy in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards; author of the award-winning book A Time To Betray; Instructor at the Joint Counterintelligence Training Academy of the Dept. of Defense;

Lt. Col. (ret.) Tony Shaffer, U.S. Army, Bronze Star recipient and Senior Intelligence Officer in the Defense Intelligence Agency;

Clare Lopez, strategic policy and intelligence expert on national defense, Islam, Iran, and counterterrorism issues.

RyanM Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 11:30 AM
That's good, wqpr.

I can match them with a list of my own starting with Martin Dempsey, head of the JCS, James Clapper, DNI, Philip Girardi, former CIA officer and others who don't believe Iran is the threat you claim that it is. This includes this stuff about an EMP weapon.

Clare Lopez is tied in with neocon Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy.

I don't know anything about Chrosniak and right now the only one on this list who has any credibility with me is Shaffer.

Reza Kahlili is a liar and McInerney is a nut. Apparently, he didn't learn anything from John Boyd.
wpqr Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 11:50 AM
So anyone you disagree with is a nut and a liar? All this proves is that no one can be completely certain what Iran's intentions are. The mullahs believe in a virulent strain of Shiite Islam in which a worldwide apocalypse precedes the coming of the 12th. Imam. Coupled with a nuclear bomb, this could be a toxic mix.
I can't say with 100% certainty either way. Can you?
RyanM Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 11:59 AM
In the case of McInerney, yes. I haven't forgotten about him and Paul Vallelry putting out that ridiculous story that Saddam had move his alleged chemical weapons to the Bekka valley. McInerney is also tied in with (A)IPAC and the CSP. Like a number of airforce officers he believes a bombing campaign would do the trick while a number of army and marine generals believe otherwise. The Giulio Douhet school of strategy hasn't been borne out by facts.
wpqr Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 12:02 PM
You also might be interested in the fact that in January, James Clapper testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran is willing to conduct attacks on American soil.

"The mullahs believe in a virulent strain of Shiite Islam in which a worldwide apocalypse precedes the coming of the 12th. Imam."

How do you know all of them believe this? I've only heard that Ahmadinejad believe this and that makes him no different from Messianic Jews or "christian"Zionists with their crazy beliefs.

"Coupled with a nuclear bomb, this could be a toxic mix."

Could be, but they don't have a program.

"I can't say with 100% certainty either way. Can you?"

I'm not willing to start a regional war over this fear you have.
RyanM Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 12:09 PM
If the US starts a war with them of course they will make attacks here.
wpqr Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 12:56 PM
In July, 2010, the Ayatollah Khameini told Iranians he personally met with the 12th. Imam and claims to be the personal representative of the Mahdi on earth and that all Muslims must obery him.. This is a view shared by Iran's top leadership.

Nobody wants a war with Iran. I don't want it, the U.S. doesn't want it, Israel doesn't want it. So, I really don't have an answer, But, I simply don't share the trust you have in Iran.
RyanM Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 1:02 PM
I'd like to see the source for this claim, but anyway...

It isn't that I trust Iran. It is that the US has a rather large nuclear arsenal and I think the Iranians are more rational than the neocon and neolib media would have people believe.
wpqr Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 1:23 PM
The source was a FOX news article. But, I assume you believe FOX is neolib media, so I guess that wouldn't matter.
To be honest, I don't know how rational their leadership is. But, if they are not building a nuclear weapons program, why are they hiding their facilities deep underground, why won't they give inspectors free, unfettered access and why are they enduring crippling sanctions?
Here is a quote made by the founding father of the Iranian Revolution, the ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini:
“We do not worship Iran, we worship Allah. For patriotism is another name for paganism. I say let this land [Iran] burn. I say let this land go up in smoke, provided Islam emerges triumphant in the rest of the world.

Don't omit their funding of various merrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
RyanM Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 2:34 PM
That's Israel's problem, not America's.
Jay Wye Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 8:26 PM
Iran has been testing SCUD launches from containerships,with HIGH altitude detonations characteristic of an EMP attack,and not usable for attacks with conventional warheads . This type of attack is not needed for Israel,Iran's IRBMs already can reach Israel. But with the US crippled or destroyed,Iran is free to do as they please,without any other Western nation able or willing to interfere with them. Also note that Iran is building a missile base in Venezuela,putting the US in range of Iran's IRBMs.
Lastly,MAD deterrence only works with RATIONAL players,and Iran's mullahs are not rational.

Fox News 7-13-12

Iran has, in fact, declared many times that it has no intention of producing nuclear weapons. But inspectors for the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have concluded that Iran’s nuclear activities, far from being aimed exclusively at a civilian energy program, contain a “military dimension” that suggests the regime is developing a nuclear weapons capability.

BTW,National Defense rightly does not rely on "100% certainty". Sheesh,you're WGS.
Jay Wye Wrote: Jul 13, 2012 8:28 PM
Iran has already made attacks here.

The Washington Free Beacon reported this week on the continuing omission of Israel from a U.S.-sponsored organization called the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF). At a recent forum meeting in Spain, Maria Otero, U.S. undersecretary of state for civilian security, democracy and human rights, delivered a speech titled "Victims of Terrorism," but, in her roll call of victims, she didn't mention Israel. The conference at which she spoke was described as a "high-level conference on the victims of terrorism," but Israel wasn't a participant.

It bears repeating because it is so fantastic: At an international conference devoted to victims of terrorism, the world's...
