Black unemployment is high because they are (not all) not very good workers and there are a lot of jobs they won't do. People rant and rave about that but it is true.

Indeed. Take cab driving. In New York and Chicago, you see practically no American-born blacks driving cabs. There are many black drivers, mostly recent immigrants: they do not yet know this job is beneath them. Many Hispanics, too, an occasional Eastern European, but no local blacks. Another observation: you see many black females as shop assistants, cashiers etc., but very few black males. Same phenomenon? Is it that black males would rather do nothing or something dangerous and illegal than hold a basic humdrum job?

Black unemployment has been double that of white Americans for more than 50 years. The black youth unemployment rate is more than 40 percent nationally. In some cities, unemployment for black working-age males is more than 50 percent. Let's look at this, but first let's look at some history.
