Don't increase the Debt Ceiling. Insist on paying the Military, Veterans, and those who paid into Social Security....To the rest of all of the Federal Government, "Go home. There is no more money for your salary, your department's budget, or your retirement programs. Go home & find new jobs in the Prosperity of the private sector. We understand you can be re trained to carry drilling pipe." The Debt Ceiling is the greatest opportunity to put a stop to this madness.

Makes sense .... Unfortunately that is not going to happen.... Ever since the Federal government allowed for unionization the pension burden has ballooned.... This balloon is made up of a very large number of peacetime retired military with no combat duty, just putting in time, they could not get hired by the post office or some other government agency so they flocked to the military...If we go to a state level we have the teachers union, the police union, fire fighters union and various municipal workers unions all being guaranteed taxpayer subsidized pensions..... The only folks that are not organized are those who have played by the rules and contributed both monetarily and physically....

If you read the 14thamendment carefully, ONLY the military and those who helped fight an insurrection are required to be paid without question. all other debts come last.

You are referring to Amendment 14, part 4
4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

Read it again. It does NOT say what you want it to.

Right on, Herb3. Put the ball back in the executive branch's court. Let them decide how they will spend the money coming in, that's the simplest and quickest. However, if the House wanted to put in the time and effort, it could negotiate exactly which departments were first de-funded, as the debt ceiling was slowly raised.

If you bank and cc company won't allow you to borrow more money you have to adjust your spending downward. We the people are the bank and cc company for the government. We need to, and have said, no more borrowing. Cut spending. 0bama says SS payments will not be sent out because of lack of funds. That is a lie to scare people. Government is only short 40% of it's spending so there is enough for essentials like SS which has been paid for by contributions from everyone aside from and separately from general taxation. (the government borrowed that money too). Herb is right. Send them home to find jobs in the economy they worked so hard to create.

While fellow conservatives bash the president for telling Speaker of the House John Boehner that the country doesn’t have a spending problem, I offer Barack Obama another thank-you.

Just when I thought that the GOP’s own ineptitude was going to sink the party, the man-who-would-be-president proved once again that when it comes to being out of touch, you can’t get any better than the First Community Organizer.

Led by Barack Obama and the Democrats, Congress passed a budget plan that doesn’t even do what they said it would- keep taxes lower for anyone not a millionaire or billionaire.

So, now...
