In addition, empowerment means different things to certain people and it changes with the times. Not every woman considers living the life of a Sex in the City character to be all that empowering. Not every man considers the life of Charlie Sheen all that empowering either. I'm all for open and honest discussions about sexuality, but I think there are too many set notions about what empowerment entails. And when one notion is pushed over all others, it sends conflicting messages that lead to conflicting behavior.

I think the time has come for a line item veto in higher education. The people of North Carolina are being bankrupted by higher education spending that is simply not academic in nature. The problem was once confined to UNC’s flagship campus in Chapel Hill. But now it has spread like a cancer throughout the entire UNC system.
