These weren't professional soldiers. These were citizens angry about the way the British were treating them. If you are thinking strickly like a professional soldier, yes giving any information too the enemy is not good. Non professionals, however would be more likely to make mistakes, and who ever said that we did not make mistakes in those early days?

With respect to Paul's comment there is a big difference between a Democracy and a Republic no matter what the root of the word means. It is more that just whether you elect representatives or vote directly although the form does have a major effect on the effectiveness of government. But it has also been said that this form of government depends on having an educated and a good and moral people. Jefferson talked about the need for citizens to have a certain level of education while Adams talked about morality. These critiera are necessary in order for people to choose their leaders wisely. The argument for a Republic is that most people are so busy with their everyday lives that they simply cannot or do not spend the time...

I read somewher that Iran is already taking steps to deal with a boycott of gasoline should it come. They are doing something like what T. Boone Pickins has recommended for us here, e.g. they are planning to convert automobiles and trucks etc, to natural gas, which they also have in abundance and which does not need the same kind of refining.

They are working with German companies to get the necessary equipment and the Germans are doing something like what they did in the Oil for Food scandal, they are not blocking the sale fo the necessary equipment from the German firms.

The person who said that to be effective a boycott must be universal is so very right. If any country breaks the boycott or allows the Iranian...

Envy,resentment and hostility toward those people that have more is an demonstration of failure to obey the tenth commandment. Sowell's examples are just one aspect of this failure, unfortunately an extreme example.

Sadly the Democrat leadership seems to want to exacerbate the situation by fomenting resentment against those who have, mostly because they have earned it. Their “Tax cuts for the Rich” rhetoric is designed to invoke this resentment. Their efforts toward “redistributing wealth” are really just an example of the breaking of yet another...
