NRA: School Security Only Possible With Armed Good Guys

Yes...more wetting the bed from our ideological cousins on the left. What are the serious proposals put forth by the left on this issue? They have none except to ban guns from law-abiding citizens. Here is a solution...I posted it on other blogs. Tear it up, dear readers. Thanks in advance to serious responses. The idea takes a 4 element approach. #1. Metal Detectors or other non-intrusive inspection of students, teachers and their baggage, coupled with closed campuses throughout the school day.

#2. Volunteer armed security teams that receive and pass NRA training in .223 caliber carbines, and 9mm or .40 caliber sidearms--both openly carried. The security teams provide their own weapons, ammunition and leadership. The school system conducts and pays for the background investigation. The NRA provides training, pro bono.
#3. School administration, teachers and facilities management teams are permitted to carry concealed on campus with CCW permit, using a concealed weapon of choice. The CCW training is provided pro bono by the NRA, and certified by the State, for all that desire it for use at their schools. Again, background investigations are paid for by the State School system.

#4. Zero tolerance for the establishment of gun-free school zones--eliminate them.
Why do I think this will work: The shooter does not know who is armed. If the shooter can see the security teams and know where they are stationed, they can take action to mitigate their being where armed opposition exists. It is a harder proposition if you do not know where the good guys with guns are, nor how many there are.

If you asked the local NRA members in our communities to patrol schools, with NRA-provided training and using their own guns/ammo to lessen the costs, you would find a mountain of willing volunteers.

You know...when we want to eliminate bullying and violence on school buses, we ask parents to ride in the buses to assist the bus drivers and maintain discipline among students. It is a volunteer effort and works.

We could do the same in our schools with security, using NRA trained and willing volunteers.

So in essence ..militarize society. Can't wait to see the fences and barbed wire.

Or we could arm the teachers already in the classrooms. That strategy is already tried and proved.

Those who refuse to protect the children under their car can find other jobs.

During their first press conference since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting last week in Newtown, Conn. leaders from the National Rifle Association offered the country a National School Shield Safety Program as an immediate way to protect children from violent killers during a press conference today in Washington D.C.

“While some have tried to exploit the tragedy for political gain, we have remained respectfully silent,” NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said. “Nobody has addressed the most important pressing and immediate question...How do we protect our children today?”

LaPierre discussed in detail an...
