What happens to President Obama's poll numbers from here until November 2016 is meaningless. His approval rating by then can be 0 and the MSM will still be promoting Hillary as the new "savior" to fix all of our problems. The Reps should not fall into the trap -- all attention needs to be centered on Mrs. Clinton (and her lies, failures, etc.), not Mr. Obama (although the latter will likely be scary and entertaining to watch).

This is How You Lose a War

When the Iraq and Afghanistan wars first started I thought I knew what Bush's strategy would be. Unfortunately, I was wrong. So let me raise it here... After invading and clearing out the riff-raff (i.e., Saddam and the Taliban), we should have created a LARGE military base in each country. Let's call them "hunting lodges". We should never have engaged in nation building -- "Mr, Afghani... if you wish to live in the 7th century and treat your women like cattle... go ahead! We won't try to bring you into the civilized world." But... don't you dare try to stop us from our mission: Hunting down and killing any and every terrorist we see fit to kill, anywhere in your sphere of influence. Oh, and that includes Pakistan and Iran, too. We should have planned on keeping these bases for 50 years and be indiscriminate in our targeting actions. We had Iran physically contained between two conquered and with the help of our ally India, Pakistan, too. But, alas, I do not run the war against terror. I still think this is a valid strategy -- if our leaders had the balls to do it.

Warty -- I could not agree with you more. We need to face the facts... America as we knew it is gone. Obama isn't responsible for it, we (as a people) are. If you want to see our future read "Atlas Shrugged". It is coming true as we speak.

Mick - I agree with you wholeheartly, except with one minor difference... I contend that Obama is resphaing America BECAUSE HE THINKS IT IS BEST FOR THE COUNTRY! Yes, his plan is to fundamentally change America and it is occurring right on schedule. I suspect many will disagree with me, too, but in his ideological worldview, America will be "better" after the transformation.
So many ways Obamacare is hurting people... here's mine. I work for a large company. They converted from many PPO-type insurance plans people were happy with to just one high-deductible plan with, of course, much higher premiums. They also make insuring a spouse and/or children VERY expensive, claiming that their role is to insure the worker, not the whole family. Many employees can no longer use their doctors of choice (thanks to a narrowing plan network) and prescription costs are already going through the roof. The handwriting here is on the wall -- 2017 will see health coverage eliminated for all employees, thereby adding many thousands to the exchanges. Soon America will be screaming for national healthcare (not by choice but because there will be no alternative) and the government will have what it wants: ultimate control over you and me. Time to go Galt.
And Texas will be even better after we, along with Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas, break away to form a separate country! Woo-hoo!
I always enjoy Michael Barone's analyses (especially in elections). Which is why it troubles me to partially disagree with his last prediction. It is very possible (not definite) that America's best days ARE behind it. True, we may recover from the current expanded government but history speaks against it (Ancient Rome, British Empire, Soviet Empire are a few examples that come to mind). As governments become overly-intrusive and, by necessity, overly-demanding, the entity (country or empire) diminishes. Face it, we have been going down this path for nearly 100 years and the trend is accelerating. If one wants to see a more realistic prophesy of where we are heading, read Atlas Shrugged. As I have stated many times, we can survive someone like President Obama, but we cannot survive with a population who elects someone like President Obama - twice!

Unfortunately, generaous, hard-working and volunterring people don't mean squat with what's going on today. Just read Atlas Shrugged -- lots of great people in that phophetic book and they got rolled by an oppresive government. Sorry, Scott, your enthusiasm is ill-placed. America's best days ARE behind us, the future IS bleak.
Dan - You are spot on. If you have read Atlas Shrugged then you know our future. The producers are already starting to disappear (several of whom I know personally). The country will continue to disintegrate and 'hopefully' we can rebuild after the collapse. But don't count on it.
Don't worry... All will be fine once Hilary is CINC! (sarcasm intended)
