There’s Not Much Hope for Tax Reform

Mitchell tells it like it is. The Fair Tax has a very steep uphill climb but would do away with the 70 thousand plus pages of the tax code and the lowlife who use it to make a buck off the working folks. 90% of the problems the politicans cause would go away with the Fair Tax and if we want a true fair share paid by all the Fair Tax would be the way to go.

The so-called "Fair Tax" is a nonstarter. The prebate makes it worse than what we have today. With the prebate, EVERYBODY is dependent on government for part of their income. The last thing we need in this country is more people getting a government check.

A simple sales tax that exempts food, clothing & medicine would be much better.

I don't know. I agree that without the prebate it would be much, much simpler and the govt would have no need to keep as much information on us. It would be far cheaper as well. On the other hand, the purpose of the prebate is to make it tax-neutral for the poor. Their clothing and food purchases are far less extravagant than mine. We would need to collect the taxes on the Manolo Blahniks and designer duds that the wealthy buy but that would not get taxed with the exemptions you suggest.

NO exemptions . That just starts the same old game again that got us where we are .
The rebate is simple . We know the basic cost of any size family and the rebate gives the lower income folks the assiatance they allready get without the massive gov. org. we have to pay for.
Everyone is supposed to be in the system but they are not. The blackmarket is getting bigger and bigger. The fair Tax would put a stop to the billions going unreported. The unreporters have to buy to live and would finally pay their fair share. IF you read the Book Fair Tax you would understand the idea and not just jump in and poo poo it before you even understand it. That is the biggest problem with the big gov. can cure all leftiest thinking. But if they come up w

More trollish ignorance; the truth is, It's to ignorant and incompetent to correct the spelling. Notice the liberal signoff of complete stupidity .

In recent months, I’ve displayed uncharacteristic levels of optimism on issues ranging from Obamacare to the Laffer Curve.

But this doesn’t mean I’m now a blind Pollyanna. We almost always face an uphill battle in our efforts to restrain the power and greed of the political class.

And in some areas, such as the fight for pro-growth and humane tax reform, I see very little reason for hope.

In honor of tax day, I explained my pessimism in an article for The Daily...
