I have applauded the accomplishments of the space programs since I was a kid in grade school in the 1950's. Even Russia's successes helped us to redouble our efforts and provided us with incentives to do even better. While NASA has had its problems, I still am overjoyed by this successful mission to Mars and wish with all my heart that I was young enough to be a part of a Mars colony of people. I hope that we (the USA) do not blow this opportunity to further space exploration. Thank you Jackie for writing this article and know that you have many readers who agree with your joy.

Here's my first admission: I'm a geek. In school, I was the bookish girl who kept her head down during class and barely talked with other students. A bit of a nerd, geek or whatever other slang word would fit at the time. A voracious reader, I spent most lunch hours during my eighth-grade year reading in the library.
