Not true. It is a sad fact that stupid, or people with average intelligence, truly believe that they are as smart if not smarter than highly intelligent people. Attacking the dignity of highly regarded scientific organizations is considered good politics on the conservative side of the political spectrum in the United States. The Republican Party wants everybody to believe that the most reputable scientists and scientific organizations in the world are all either corrupt or stupid. And why, might you ask, are Republicans doing this? Because not a single reputable scientific organization, or reputable scientist for that matter, thinks that man-made global warming is a myth, or that global warming and climate change aren’t very...
Why don't you tell Stephen Hawking that the sun warms the earth because maybe he never thought of that?
Mr. Hawkins, when are you going to apologize? Like every conservative hack in America, you were all over the Climategate case. Do you have any idea how it turned out? They were absolved. As a matter of fact, there have been 5 separate independent inquiries that have looked into the Climategate case and reported on it. On March 31, 2010, the Science and Technology Select Committee inquiry reported that the emails and claims raised in the controversy did not challenge the scientific consensus that “global warming is happening and that it is induced by human activity“. They also said that they had seen no evidence to support claims that Jones had tampered with data or interfered with the peer-review process. On April 14, 2010, the...

Where does lack of respect for science come from?

So far, the only group of people in the world to display grotesque arrogance and lack of respect for scientific organizations are the Young-Earth Creationists. YEC’s believe the earth is only 6000 years old when in fact about 40 different lines of scientific evidence all corroborate each other and prove that it’s closer to 4.5 billion years old. As far as the science goes, these people are off by a factor of 750,000 to 1. It’s like asking someone how far they think the moon is from the earth and they tell you it’s 3 miles away.

What's even more funny is that these people will argue until the cows come home that the science backs them up.

The Republican party is...

In the global warming/climate change case, think of public opinion as the jury, the world’s worst polluters as the defendant, and Patrick Michaels as one of their many lawyers. His job is to cloud the issue, muddy the waters, and create doubt in the minds of the public.

There are plenty of groups opposing action by the U.S. government to curb greenhouse gas emissions. The problem is that most of them have little or nothing to do with science.

The New York Times ran an article about the American Petroleum Institute in April of 1998. It outlines a very specific and detailed plan by oil and gas industry representatives to invest millions of dollars in an effort to undermine support for the Kyoto Protocol and discredit the...
