Average liberals are short-sighted. I'm not talking about the politicians whose motives can be questioned, I'm talking about the average "Joe-on-the-streeet" liberal who hears things like "Tax the rich", "Marital Equality", "Women's rights/health", "Free healthcare", or "Save the planet" and believes them. They look at the immediate situation, agree that there is some injustice being done, and think that the Democrats (usually) have a good solution to fix the immediate problem. The problem is, a lot of times the immeditiate fix can cause irrepairable harm to whatever is being "fixed." Union actions may get immediate results, but long term, the company has to cut costs elsewhere (like by laying off workers) or die (like Hostess)...

Killing off companies may seem like a noble thing to do, but the problem is companies employ people, and without those companies, those people will need to find other employment. And with the Obama Economy, jobs aren't easy to find. This is a situation where they killed the goose and found out that there's no store of gold inside.

Hostess employees insisted on continuing a strike, even as management noted that the company couldn't survive a prolonged union action. Now the employees won't have jobs at all, as their action has forced the company to liquidate.

On Black Friday, some Wal-Mart employees are planning on staging a walkout to protest alleged retaliation for employees who criticize the company. (Not surprisingly, union organizers -- angry that Wal-Mart isn't unionized -- are behind a lot of the controversy.)

Perhaps what all these petulant employees don't realize is that companies are in business to earn a profit.  If they can't, there...
