Why does the FDA have armed agents? Are there massive cow forging rings that must be dealt with. Is there an illegal sugar cartel that shoots anyone they don't recognize? Are armed dealers selling aspirin on the street? Has Wyeth holed up in a compound threatening to deliver the next Fen-phen if their demands aren't met?

Leah touched on this yesterday, but I think it deserves another look. The Food and Drug Administration has proposed new labeling requirements that would make labeling mistakes a federal crime complete with jail time for violators.
