I, of course, would include missile defense as part of the "minding our own borders" policy.

"...closing the bases, minding our own business & just guarding our own borders" is what we should certainly do someday. Timing is key. With Iran and North Korea close to developing intercontinental missile capability, protecting our borders becomes a different proposition than it was in the past. Let's not make the error of doing without missile defense until we need it.

I think criticism of Ron Paul's foreign policy (a return to our Founding Father's desire of non-intervention & free trade... which does NOT equal isolationism) is also an example of today's Normalcy Bias: people are so used to the USA having 800+ bases in 120+ nations around the world, fighting so many undeclared, Unconstitutional wars as part of our self appointed job as "the world's policeman" that most can't imagine bringing the troops home, closing the bases, minding our own business & just guarding our own borders. They are too used to an American Empire, even though we can't afford it & except for fighting the Soviet Union at one time, can no longer be justified.

The Fed is buying 61% of our own debt. Barack Obama's 10 year budget will leave Americans with “more debt than has been accumulated by all previous Presidents in American history combined.” Nobody on the Left or Right seems to believe we'll ever pay off all of the money we owe. Life as we know it is very close to ending and yet Americans seem to be...
