Arguing if the AR 15 is or isnt an assault weapon is a waste of time. Assault weapons were banned to all but the moneyed and connected in 1935. If Davids sling shot was all we had left to protect ourselves and it was effective they would ban and confiscate the slings and the rocks. The second amendment taken in context is very clear. At the time muskets were the weapon used by the military and they wanted everyone to be armed with equivalent weaponry if thats not the intend then they wouldn't have included the amendment because it wouldn't effect the goal they wanted which was and is individual liberty and defense.
