Big Government Gets Ugly

I can't wait to gross out all of my friends with these photos. In Canada, my favorite one was the tongue with a cancer lesion on it. Too bad smokers can't sue for all the lies told about second-hand and third-hand smoke. Pedophiles get more respect than the cigarette smokers who have bailed out schools, state budgets, and the Feds. Private property rights have been trampled with no smoking in restaurant laws. Where can we smokers live so that we have the freedom to do as we wish? Not Michigan.

Don't forget second-hand and third- hand cigarette smoke. Not one person's death certificate has listed either as the cause of death. And the benefits of smoking are all hushed up, too.
Mrs. Schlafly is incorrect when she wrote, " granting U.S. citizenship creates the possibility of dual citizenship, which the United States has never recognized as valid." This is incorrect. I am an American citizen. I gave birth in Canada in 1981. My son has dual citizenship. American from me, Canadian from his birth country. He carries 2 passports with no problem from either country. And yes, he did register for the draft here when he turned 18.

Teacher's Union Claims Member's Scalp

The Federal Beck law would allow those teachers to only pay for costs associated with collective bargaining. If they made the local union PROVE those costs, they could at least not have to pay 90% of those dues. For the rest of Michigan: Right-to-work means back to work.
To make the scanners more palatable, people should be allowed to place their hands, palm sides out, five inches in front of their faces with their armpits exposed. There is no reason not to allow this. The scanner readers can see everything they need to see, and the person's face remains anonymous.

No more double standards

The other bogus claim? "Second Hand Smoke kills." Name three people who died this year from SHS. State and Federal governments keep more than half the cost of a pack of cigarettes, yet won't let us smoke in private businesses.

Abolish Public Schools

If you compare the vocabulary of a third grade reader from the 1950s to one from today, you can see how dumbed down the curriculum has become. Penmanship is barely taught. Spelling rules are nonexistent. And the kids spend more time on guestimating than they do getting correct answers on math. When the school day was 6 hours long and every minute devoted to real academic skills, the US schools were the best in the world. Bring back tracking and get rid of the fluff and public schools will once again be on top.
My son had full professors for all his classes at Community College. My daughter went to an elite college and had TAs for her first two years and didn't see even a Professor until she took classes in her major. All of my son's credits transferred to his 4 year college. Both graduated. And the only way they graduated with a degree in 4 years was by demanding to get into their required classes since they were paying for them. Their peers were content to get required classes when they could.

The Never Land Mosque

Grumpyette Wrote: Sep 01, 2010 9:10 AM
There's no money to build the mosque. Patriotic American workers will refuse to build it even if the money is raised. I think giving a hot dog vendor a permit for the sidewalk in front of the to-be-built mosque today would be very American - capitalism at its finest and a thumb in the eye to those who ignore the will of the people.

No Slam-Dunk For the Mommy Wars

I thought I was doing the right thing staying home with my kids and being volunteer extrodinaire at their schools. However, I am paying an economic price. Despite having a college degree; being up on all the latest computer programs; and having the life experience to deal with difficult people while remaingin calm and polite; I can't find a job in Michigan that isn't in retail. I bought the whole "stay home with the kids and then return to work" only to find my skills ignored because I have a big gap on my resume. I don't need healthcare insurance. I'm still thin and energetic. I won't be taking maternity leave or have weekend hangovers from partying. I need to be hired.
