Yopu work for what you recieve, not taking without producing. That is highly different than those on welfare who do not create anything and get a government check. I don't include those on SSA who are retired and paid into the system in this either. I believe they have a right to whatever they get because they weren't lazy but worked and reached a good retirement age to get what they receive. I am more concerned about the able bodied, mind in tact non-workers who refuse to become gainfully employed or do anything to provide for themselves. The Jamestown compact said for those that came here that "If a man doeth not work, he shalt not eat". In that new society, it was important that everyoe pull their own weight. The same applies now.

Three years ago, I put together a “Moocher Index” that measured the degree to which non-poor people in a state were benefiting from redistribution programs.

As you can see if you click on the nearby table, Vermont was the worst state, followed by Mississippi, Maine, New York, and Massachusetts.

I confessed that my Moocher Index was a crude and imprecise tool, but it was one of my most popular posts in the early days of this blog. Probably because it was a way of measuring the degree to which people were being lured to ride in the wagon of government...
