You claim that Cuomo's comment refers to "...the side pushing for more gun control overcame the extremists on the other side to enact common sense regulations." My point is that thinking of those who wish to preserve individuals' inborn right of self defense as extremists is itself irrational and extreme. Cuomo (and you apparently) think that those who want to use Sandy Hook as an excuse to restrict peaceable citizen's access to effective self defense are the "intelligent and reasonable" ones. FACTS: Those places with the most restrictive gun laws also have the highest rate of violent crime -- including gun violence. Also, those places with liberal concealed carry laws have a much lower incidence of violent crime -- including gun crime

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) has just passed into law (in the words of the Associated Press) the nation’s toughest gun restrictions” since the deadly massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School:

Jumping out ahead of Washington, New York state enacted the nation's toughest gun restrictions Tuesday and the first since the Connecticut school massacre, including an expanded assault-weapon ban and background checks for buying ammunition.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the measure into law less than an hour after it won final passage in the Legislature, with supporters hailing it as a model for the nation and gun-rights activists condemning it...
