As long as the NFL uses the colleges as their R & D departments, they should pay the cost of development for their future players. All colleges that have football programs and all colleges that have basketball programs should be compensated by the NFL and the NBA, respectively.
As for education majors for athletes, they should only be allowed to major in courses of study that also have a significant percentage of non athletes in the course of study.
Bring back the old substitution rules that make it necessary for players to play both offense and defense. Outlaw "specialists"; e.g. punters, kickers and deep snappers and have those jobs done by other position players.
