Democracy Versus Liberty

Paranoid, you just don't seem to get it. We do not get our rights from government. If you repeal the 2nd Amendment I do not lose my right to keep and bear arms. It would simply remove the prohibition on that right being infringed upon. Remember that prior to the 17th amendment, we had a House elected by the people, a Senate elected by the State governments and a President elected by the Electoral College. Three entities elected by three separate and distinct groups of voters. We are not a democracy, we are a representative republic. Some may think that it is a splitting of hairs since we the people vote on so many things, but the foundation is a republic and not a democracy.
