If the Bible is “a radically pro-slavery document” (Dan Savage), how is it that Christians who successfully fought for the abolition of slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries based their opposition to slavery on that very same Bible? The answer is simple: The Bible is actually not “a radically pro-slavery document.”
According to Savage (following atheist Sam Harris), “the Bible got the easiest moral question that humanity has ever faced wrong. Slavery! What’re the odds that the Bible got something as complicated as human sexuality wrong? 100% percent.”
To be candid, it’s easy to see where Savage and Harris are...

Yes, they could be beaten so long as no permanent harm occured. So gentle.
"Slavery had been a fact of life through all of recorded history."
So has murder. You wish to argue why it's OK too?
It IS apparent, however, that you enjoy non sequiturs.
Feel free to point out those non-sequiturs.
So God believes that being gay is worse than slavery? He flat out says its an abomination, but he cant make this claim for slavery ?
Now Romans 6:18 informs believers in Christ: "You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness."
And this leads to a unity described in Galatians 3:28 where "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
The truth of the matter is
I'm sorry, Mark, but these arguments truly flabbergast me. Homosexuals harm no one by their attraction to the same sex, yet this is an abomination. Slavery: the owning of humans as property, which caused untold deaths and suffering is not so bad. Can't spare a few lines saying "owning slaves is an abomination"? Nope.
So anything that causes harm is an abomination? Smoking? Poor eating? Not exercising? Riding a bike without a helmet?
