Private charities with voluteers work much more efficiently for disaster relief than does the federal government. They are not required to maintain large overheads to be ready, and can respond more efficiently and quickly than the government bureaucracy, since they are already located everywhere they need to be. Why do people feel that the government has to solve all of their problems?

Private charities with volunteer workers cannot provide the money and skill to do the reconstruction that is needed after a disaster. Early reponse is important but the long haul of federal aid would be sorely missed and is hard to duplicate.

In a true example of leadership, Mitt Romney has sent his campaign bus to aid in hurricane relief as Hurricane Sandy prepares to slam into the northeast as early as tonight. Donations were being accepted today at the Romney campaign Virginia headquarters. Ann Romney was scheduled to appear in New Hampshire tomorrow, but has canceled plans so resources can be spent helping people affected by the storm. Twitchy has more:
